New Year’s Day January 1, 2022 – Ollie’s Pond Walkabout Report

JANUARY 1, 2022 WALKABOUT REPORT – 37 SPECIES SEEN

We welcomed NEW YEARS DAY in with about 16 people meeting at Ollies Pond for an early morning walk. It was great to see some old friends and meet some new people.

Shannon heard and saw a pair of Great-horned Owls just before we started our walk. There were plenty of Common Gallinules on the pond with Coots and Pied-billed Grebes. The Blue-winged Teals were dabbling with other ducks in the water vegetation. Not many warblers or other passerines were observed. The Great-blue Herons were busy building nests high in the pines. It was a nice morning at the pond with lots of social activity.
